A $50 bill answers most questions to the authorities satisfaction.
Government ministers preferred wallets stuffed with local currency used notes of mixed denomination up to the equivalent of $1,500. These wallets always seemed to inadvertently slip from one's pocket whilst sat on the sofa taking tea with the minister in his office.

And in any case, Ramadan in Jakarta just meant we drank our beer out of coffee mugs rather than glasses so that when the authorities put their heads round the door to check, they saw we was all good little boys.
